'Ormayundo ee Mugham' is a predictable love story.
Love stories that adhere to normal patterns need something remarkably novel to rouse interest.Musical love stories used to dominate our screens until new narrative modes started to be in vogue. Anwar Sadik's 'Ormayundo ee mukham',strives to endear itself to the lovers of simple love stories, that may or may not have a happy ending. And it ticks most boxes when it comes to predictability and in that process fails to provide anything new.It is as if the makers were particular that it should not rise above the ordinary.
The ambience for a conventional love story is built up from the word go.Goutham (Vineeth Sreenivasan) is a young businessman who is suave and adorable. His mother Vasundhara Devi (Rohini) is the head of the family business. She is businesslike in her approach to life and is very strict.Goutham leads a happy go lucky life with his close pal Apoorva ( Aju Varghese) and he is attached to his grandmother played by Lakshmi. The interactions between the jovial and young at heart grandmother and the grandson creates some hilarious moments.
Love was waiting to happen after all and in comes Nithya (Namitha Pramod),an artiste with a special skill for creating models in sand. The paths of Goutham and Nithya crosses and after the customary budding time romance ensues. The proceedings are breezy as the film starts to resemble a rom com with songs sandwiched between scenes.
In an effort to give a new dimension to the plot the director brings in the element of short term memory loss. The movie begins to lose momentum as an array of half baked scenes creep in.Nithya's travails with memory loss and the effect that it has on the romantically linked couple forms the rest of the narrative. The film loses its sheen as that feel goodness goes out of the window.Colourful packaging can hold your attention for a while, but ultimately the flimsy content inside lets the movie down.
If the movie holds ground for large parts it is due to some large hearted performances.Vineeth Srinivasan looks every bit the gentleman lover and more than his looks the way he carries himself in the movie is what is delightful. Namitha Pramod makes the screen come alive with her disarming charm. But as a pair Vineeth and Namitha dont have that X factor which makes love stories of this sort appealing and enduringly endearing. Aju Varghese is decent along with Bhagath Manuel and Mukesh is convincing in an important role. Rohini and Lakshmi bring their experience to the screen with ease.
As a director Anwar Sadik can feel satisfied that he has managed to convey what he intended. But the question is whether that is enough. Despite creating the right ambience and build up this love story doesnt prosper. Gorgeous visuals by Jithu Damodar are a relief while Shaan Rahman fails to create magic with his songs this time.
'Ormayundo ee mukham' is a power packed title and it has a relevance with regard to the plot. But the plot was just not well etched to make the movie a memorable experience. In the end the film becomes akin to a sand castle, which looks beautiful, but which is susceptible to a collapse at the slightest feather touch.'Ormayundo Mukham', will become a memory much earlier than the makers would have expected.
